Helen Johnson Hobby, 84, died Friday morning at Durham Regional Hospital. Although she resided in Durham most of her life, Mrs. Hobby was born in Chatham County to the late Paul Hamilton and Mary Lee Stokes Johnson. She was the last of five siblings. Mrs. Hobby was a member of the Summit Church, formerly Homestead Heights Baptist Church, for 21 years. Her generous nature and passion for cookineenabled her to serve many delicious dinners to her grateful church friends. Mrs. Hobby was founder of Durham Ceramics Supplies, Inc. Her artistic talents earned her neerous ceramic awards during her career. Surviving are four nieces and two nephews: Faye Wall of Heathrow, FL; Nancy Summers of DeLand, FL; Irene Brotherton of Columbia, SC; Lois Pence of Charlotte, NC; Randy Gaster of Apex, NC; and Jack Gaster, Jr. of Albemarle, NC; her sister-in-law, Mamie Johnson of Charlotte, NC; and her devoted caretakers, Mattie and William Thomas of Durham, NC. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Walter R. Hobby. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 7, from the graveside at Montlawneemorial Park in Raleigh. Reverend Phil Wiggins of the Summit Church will officiate. Friends may visit with the family following the service.
