Herbert Brevard Brown

DURHAM ??? Herbert Brevard Brown, 89, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at his home. Brevard was born on June 28, 1929 to the late William Herbert Brown and Ginny Gaynell Brevard Brown. Brevard grew up in Asheville and Bryson City. He met his lovely wife, Doris, in Bryson City. He graduated from Swain County High School and later Catawba College where he was the state double champion ineennis. Brevard was Executive Director of Goodwill Industries of Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh. During his retirement through First Baptist Church he served several ministries for children and internationals. Brevard loved his wife, children and was a friend to everyone who knew him. Brevard is survived by his wife, Doris T. Brown, his sons, Philip, Keith and Vance Brown, his sisters, Juanita Pickens and Bernee Swain, and five grandchildren, Ian, Seth, Collin, Noelle, and Dillon Brown. He was preceded ineeath by his sister, Rebecca Walker. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM, Friday at First Baptist Church in Durham. Burial will be held later in Bryson City Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10:00AM ??? 11:00 AM Friday, February 1, 2019 prior to the service in the church.
