Howard David Clayton

Howard David Clayton, age 83, died on November 9, 2020. He was born to the late Howard Jeffries Clayton and Pauline Ellis Clayton on October 4, 1937 in Granville County.

David was a graduate of Granville Co. Schools, worked for Butner Public Safety for 25 years, enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, his family, and grandchildren. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather, and always enjoyed a good ride on his John Deere. David was a friend to all who knew him and never met a stranger.

David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joann Daniel Clayton; his son Steven David Clayton (Wendy) and his daughter, Amy Clayton Wilkins (Kevin) and 3 grandsons, Daniel Clayton (Katie), Brandon Wilkins (Josie) and Chase Wilkins. He will be missed by numerous cousins and loving friends and family.

Graveside service to be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at 3:00 pm at Tally Ho First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Eddie Nutt. Public visitation will be at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 – 4: 00 pm. The family requests that all attendees wear appropriate face coverings in addition to the safe practices of social distancing.
