Howard Franklin Claypoole

Howard F. Frank Claypoole passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Duke Uneersity Medical Center in Durham, NC. Born May 19, 1935, he grew up in Toledo, Ohio where he was an all-city basketball player at Toledo Scott High School. He joined the Uneed States Army after high school and served in Korea in the 8178 Army Unit, before his honorable discharge in 1953. He attended Ohio State Uneersity on the GI Bill, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelors degree in economics, and married Ann Michael of Wellston, Ohio, also an Ohio State graduate, immediately following graduation. He then enrolled in the Ohio State College of Law, graduating in 1961. He moved to Dayton, Ohio that year, working in the Frigidaire legal department, before leaving to join the law firm that became Murr, Compton, Claypoole and MacBeth. In his nearly 38 years of private legal practice in Dayton, Frank represented banks, title companies and individuals primarily in probate, real estate and other business transactions. In 2001, Frank retired from the practice of law, and he moved with his wife to Durham, NC, where he attended classes at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and served on the board of directors of vocational rehabilitation and job training service non-profit company OE Enterprises. He is survived by his wife Ann Claypoole, his daughter Elizabeth Claypoole of Durham, soneed Claypoole, daughter-in-law Amy Claypoole and grandchildren Brynn Claypoole, Sarah Claypoole and Samantha Claypoole of Charlotte, and brother Samuel Claypoole of Sarasota, Florida. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 23, 2007 at Westmineer Presbyterian Church, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC. His family will receive visitors following the service at the church.
