Hughes Ernest Wilkinson III, of Washington D.C. left this life in his sleep on July 5, 2009. He was born on May 26, 1941 to Hughes Ernest Wilkinson Jr. and Anee June Faust Wilkinson in Durham and preceded ineeath by them. Hughes graduated from Northern High School in 1959 and Watts Hospital School of Radiology. He received his Radiologic Technologist licensure through the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine. He knew from an early age that he wanted to work in imagery and worked in the field all his life. He loved his work and received many accommodations for his compassionee and caring spirit with patients. His career began in Greenville, SC, but he worked in and fell in love with the Washington D.C. area working until his retirement in 2003 from Northern Virginia Community Hospital in Arlington, VA. People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. If you ever met our Hughes, you appreciated the time that you had with him, no matter what the duration. Hughes had a great sense of humor, loved art, antiquities, journaling, and travel. He loved decorating for the holidays in his home, especially for Christmas, and had a large collection of nutcrackers. He enjoyed the company of good friends and treasured many marvelous memories. He is survived by his brother, John D. Wilkinson of neeville, FL; a niece, Olivia E. Wilkinson of Richmond, VA; and a nephew, Troy D. Wilkinson of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by his companion of many years, his Congo African Grey Parrot, Billy. Hughes will be laid to rest in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery in his native Durham with a graveside service held 10:00 AM Saturday.
