(Durham, NC) – Ingrid Christine Buhler Pisetsky, MD, age 78, died peacefully at home on January 17, 2024. She was born on June 16, 1945, in Pasadena, CA to the late Rolf and Mary Buhler.
Ingrid lived in Durham, NC for over 45 years, with cherished friends in the Forest Hills neighborhood bridge group, of which she was a member for over 40 years. Ingrid enjoyed several hobbies including crafts (sewing, quilting), travel, and hiking. She was also an avid reader and a member of a book club.
Ingrid graduated from Newport Harbor High in 1963 and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2017 based on her contributions to the fields of psychiatry and psychoanalysis. She graduated from Stanford University in 1967 and received her MD degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1971. She was an intern in Pediatrics at Bronx Municipal Hospital and then completed a residency in Psychiatry at Yale-New Haven Hospital. After 3 years at Chestnut Lodge in Rockville, Maryland, she moved with her husband David to Durham, NC in 1978. She completed a fellowship in Child Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and obtained certification as a psychoanalyst. She had a private practice in psychiatry and psychoanalysis. She achieved the level of Training Analyst in the American Psychoanalytic Association, of which she was an active member. She also supervised psychiatry residents at Duke and UNC Medical Centers.
Ingrid is survived by her husband David of 54 years; her son Michael (Rachel); her daughter Emily (Lucien), and granddaughter Maya; her brother Craig (Faye), and sisters Brooke (Marty) and Alice. Ingrid was preceded in death by her mother (Mary) and father (Rolf).
A memorial service will be held at Judea Reform Congregation on Sunday, January 21st at 2:00 p.m. The family will sit shiva at their home following the memorial and welcome visitors from 4-7p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts be made in her honor to the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas or Duke Hospice.
