Irene Johnson Mann

Irene Johnson Mann, 87, of US 15-501, Chapel Hill, died March 10, 2008 at UNC Hospital. Mrs. Mann was born June 15, 1920 in Chatham County to Rufus J. Johnson and Nettie Womble Johnson. She attended Bynum School and graduated from Pittsboro High School. Mrs. Mann was retired from Belk after a 30 year career, where she worked in the men's clothing department. She was an active member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, serving as a leader of BYPU, teaching the Junior class, and singing in the choir. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Jo Ann Mann of Mooresville; daughters and son-in-law, Martha and Brian Wood of Pittsboro, and Cindy Cannefax of Chapel Hill; seven grandchiildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Silas J. Mann, and a daughter, Rita Phyllis Mann, preceded her ineeath. The service to celebrate Mrs. Mann's life will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Brooks Hunt and Rev. John Sineetary will preside. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 7:00 - 9:00 pm Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro. Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be given to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
