Jack Council

Lawrence Jackson "Jack" Council, 82, died Friday in the V.A. Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Chatham County he was a Durham resident since the mid 1950's. He was employed with the Durham Herald-Suneewspaper for 35 years, retiring in 1988. Mr. Council also served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was an avid golfer and loved travel. Mr. Council was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Barbara. Surviving is his wife Marie G. Council. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Council in 20007. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday from St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church meeting in the chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St. Durham. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit 7-9 PM Monday in the funeral home.
