Emblem

James Waverly Breedlove, Sr., born on December 30, 1943, in the heart of Oxford, North Carolina, passed from this world on February 9, 2025. A man of remarkable simplicity and devotion, he carved his legacy through sweat and labor, dedicating his life to farming and serving as a groundskeeper at a nearby golf course. With hands toughened by years of hard work, James embodied the spirit of resilience, finding beauty in the humblest of tasks and purpose in the rhythm of nature's seasons.

The quiet strength of James's character was forged in the fires of diligence, enriched by his love for family and the natural world around him. He honored his country through service in the Army, where the values of discipline and unity became hallmarks of his life. This simplicity reflected not just his approach to work, but also his relationships with those fortunate enough to know him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his sons, James "Jay" W. Breedlove, Jr. (Mary), David Breedlove (Amy), and Clay Breedlove (Lora), who will carry forth his traditions, values, and strong work ethic. James also cherished bonding moments with his grandchildren—Dylan, Lucas, Logan, Elaina, Caitlin, Logan, Meghan, and Elijah—each of whom has stories etched with the warmth of his affection and guidance. He will be greatly missed by his beloved cat, “Blackie”, extended family and friends too numerous to name.

In this tapestry of family, the echoes of laughter shared with his beloved sister, Christine Breedlove Smith (Marshall), carry forth the spirit of camaraderie and support that defined their relationship. The bond of brotherhood holds a bittersweet note with the memories of his late brother, Perry Davis Breedlove Jr., whose spirit remains intertwined with James’s legacy.

The heartache of loss is tempered by the love of those who have gone before him. James is reunited with his beloved wife, Bonnie Clayton Breedlove, as well as his parents, Perry Davis Breedlove Sr. and Frances Frazier Breedlove, whose influence shaped the man he became.

A very special thank you to Erin. Her unwavering support and dedication to the family will never be forgotten.

To celebrate his life, friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation on February 12, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at his residence in Oxford. A graveside service will follow on February 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, where he will find eternal rest, a tranquil place befitting the simplicity with which he lived.
