OXFORD: James Carlton Blackwell, age 83 of Dorsey Road, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 8, 2011. A devoted husband and loving father, James was a native of Granville Co, son of the late Norfleet Green and Rose Edna Jones Blackwell, a chef in the Merchant Marines during WWII, a retired farmer, a tobacco ineector with the USDA, co-owner of Farmers Warehouse in Oxford, co-owner of Blackwell Meat Processing, a Deacon Emeritus and member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, James was well known for his delicious country sausage and Brunswick stew and he enjoyed sharing his abundance from his big garden with his family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday April 11, 2011 at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Ken Compton, Rev Lanny Atkins, and Rev. Lemar Wheeler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Brooks Blackwell, his son, Dan Blackwell and wife Phyllis of Oxford, his daughter Betty Lou Watson and husband Ricky of Oxford, his brother, Nelson T. Blackwell of Henderson, his sisters, Evelyn B. Currin of Oxford, and Mildred B Harris of Henderson, five grandchildren, Jamie Blackwell Julie, Dottie Tart Mike, Jeremy Watsoneessica, Nathan Watson, Laura Wood Ray, five great grandchildren, Meredith Tart, Nick Tart, Jacob Watson, Joey Wood, and Kristin Wood. Flowers are accepted or the Family has requested that contributions in James' memory be made to the accouneestablished for Jared Cole Watson expected great-grandson c/o Rhonda Johnson 4282 Tommie Sneed Road, Oxford, NC 27565. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM 2:00PM Monday in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home. Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford is assisting the Blackwell family.
