James Otis Burnette

Mr. James Burnette, age 79, ox Oxford, NC died peacefully at his home surrounded by family.  He was born in Granville County on August 4, 1942, to his late parents, Zack F. Burnette, Jr and Lillie Mae Blackwell Burnette.  

James was a man who loved outside, animals and farming.  He was a graduate of NC State and taught agriculture for many years and farmed every chance he could.   He was a farrier, raised cattle, raised bees and made honey, a gardener and a good man and loving father and husband.

James is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Vera Schmit Burnette; his daughter, Lisa Burnette Munn of Clayton, NC;  Michael Creech and wife, Amy; Pam Creech Siffert and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Courtney, Tiffany, Madison, Miles and Amber.  He is also survived by his sister, Vickie B. Ball and her husband, Butch; his brother-in-law, Frank Schmit and wife, Dottie; his sister-in-law, Frances Howard and husband, Jack; his beloved cousin, Ronnie Burnette and wife, Patricia and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to name.   

James is predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Debra Lynn Burnette; and his sister, Janie Johnson and her husband, Chester.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Corinth Baptist Church. The family will receive family and friends for visitation one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall at Corinth Baptist Church.

The family requests that all attendees wear appropriate face coverings and adhere to the safe practice of social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James’s memory to Corinth Baptist Church, care of Guy Hiniker, Treasurer at 4054 NC Highway 96 S, Oxford, NC 27565 or to the charity of your choice.
