James Reid Pleasants, Jr. 81, died Friday in Duke Hospital following a brief illness. A Durham native, he was born October 18, 1926 in Watts Hospital to James Reid and Nellie Fern Lashley Pleasants. Jim was a 1944 graduate of Durham High School and Wake Forest Uneersity. He joined the Claude M. May Company immediately after college, and then entered the US Army conducting counter intelligence during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Durham to resume his career with Claude May, later becoming President of the company until retirement in 1997. A devoted churchman, he was a parishioner of St. Philip
