Durham, NC James W. Faucette, 100, died at UNC Hospital on December 29, 2022, after a period of declining health. He was born on June 8, 1922, in Mebane, North Carolina to the late Samuel F. and Vera Forsythe Faucette.
He graduated from Durham High in the class of 1940 and attended the University of North Carolina. He worked for the United States Postal Service. He was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church in Durham, where he sang tenor in the church choir and served as a deacon. He always enjoyed the written word, and was an avid reader and a poet. He loved sports, especially UNC football and basketball. He loved his family and everyone he met.
He is survived by his daughter, Jill Hofler (Hayes), grandson Chip Hofler (Jenny) and granddaughter Ashley Hunley (Ben) as well as five greatgrandchildren, Callie, Ryder, and Scarlett Hofler, and Kayden and Charlie Hunley. He is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Swanny Faucette, whom he loved dearly.
