Janee Irene Van Dyke of Durham died Saturday morning, February 8, 2014 at her home. She was born in Mason City, IA on July 26, 1939 to the late Frederick A. and Irene Downs Van Dyke. Janee moved to Durham in 1967 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC Chapel Hill in 1971 and later from UNC Law School in 1974. After graduation she practiced law in Durham and then moved to the S. Bronx in 1981 where she served as a public defender until 1986. Janee returned to Durham and opened her own practice until her retirement in 2013. Janee was very involved with the Eno River Association and ineer spare time enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge friends. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her two dogs, Gracie aneemma. Janee is survived by three loving daughters: Becky Khatambakhsh and husband, Shahab, of Durham, NC; Catherine Blum and husband, John, of Charlotte, NC; and Rachel Willis and husband, Carl, of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren, Laura Khatambakhsh; Nicholas, Jenneer and Michael Blum; and Alexandria, Daniel and Bryson Willis. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February, 11, 2014, at Pleasant Green Uneed Methodist Church followed by burial in the church cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall from 11:00-12:00 p.m. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service and burial.
