Janet James Case

Janet James Case, age 64, died at Duke Regional Hospital on December 8th.  She was born on February 5, 1957 to the late Jennie Dixon Stout Case and James Everett Case.

Janet graduated from Hickory High School in 1975.  She was President of Sub Juniors, and a feature editor for the school newspaper, the Twig.  She graduated from the Catawba Memorial Hospital school of X-ray technology in 1979 and began a very successful career as an X-ray technician, with a specialization in mammography, working primarily at Thomasville Medical Center.  She also performed mobile x-ray services for medical facilities throughout the Triad area of North Carolina.  After years of working as a mammographer, she returned to school, graduating from UNCG with a BS in Health and Human Performance in 1985 and began working with special needs children.

In her youth, Janet was an accomplished competitive swimmer and thoroughly enjoyed her work as a camp counselor for the First Baptist Church of Hickory.  She loved visiting with family and watching movies, even movies she had already seen several times.  Janet was a caring person who gave good, simple advice with a bright smile.  When Janet loved you, you did not have to wonder whether she did or not: she would show it every time you spent time with her.  She loved cats, in particular her late cat named Maggie.  She earned the honorary title of “Nanet” by her nephews Sam and George Bridges. 

Janet is survived by her twin sister Jennie Lynn Case Bridges and their beloved dog Josie and Jennie’s sons Samuel Frederick Bridges (Lauren) and George Michael Bridges (Ashley); her older sister Patsy Case Morgan (Don) and their children Emily Morgan Gidcumb (Shawn) and Andrew Wade Morgan; and her brother Charles Dixon Case (Margie Ann Toy Case) and their sons James Everett Case, II and Elliot Theodore Case (Yu Gu “Luna” Case).  Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her much beloved Grandmother, Hettie Coggins Kennedy.
