Jerry Donald Champion, age, 86, of Oxford, NC, passed away on August 24, 2024 in Vance County. Born on June 17, 1938, in Granville County, Jerry was a man whose life journey took him across the globe. His professional path as an electronic technician in the shipyards allowed him to work on submarines and large ships, contributing his expertise to various watercraft while traveling extensively.
An alumnus of high school, Jerry was proud to have served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that remained a significant part of his life. Despite being a man of few words, Jerry possessed a quiet wisdom. When he spoke, it was always with purpose and insight, sharing facts that reflected his thoughtful nature.
Outside of his career, Jerry nurtured hobbies that included collecting antiques and exquisite dishware, showcasing his appreciation for beauty and history. His gentle demeanor and kind spirit endeared him to many, making him a beloved figure among friends and family.
He is survived by his sisters, Priscilla Faye Jones "Bootsie", Linda Ruth Fox, and Betsy Ann Lovings; his brothers, Clifton Allen Champion (Gayle), Larry Thomas Champion, Stephen Garrison Champion (Denise) and many extended family and friends too numerous to name, including Mike Patell and family, who embraced him as part of their own.
Jerry was predeceased by his son, Donald Craig Champion, as well as his parents, Sidney C. Champion and Helen Taylor Cash Champion. He also mourned the loss of his sisters, Pauline Newell, Erma Morada Reece, and Susie Virginia Morton; and brothers, James Howard Champion, Burley Wayne Champion, Sidney Champion, Jr., and Charles Raymond Champion.
Jerry Donald Champion leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
