Jerry Lane Horne passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017.?? He was 72 years of age.?? Jerry was born in Burlington, NC to Dallas McLendon and Mary Frances Turner Horne.?? He graduated in 1963 from Walter Williams High School in Burlington. In 1964 Jerry married Teresa Catherine Keyser, also from Burlington, NC.?? In 1976, Jerry opened Tire King of Durham, Inc.?? He was very successful in building his business by opening many retail tire locations in the trianee area, a truck tire center and a wholesale tire business.?? He also owned East Carolina Tire and Phil???s Tire ineenderson, NC and was co-owner of Pro Tire Center in Fayetteville, NC and Pro Tire Center in Lumberton, NC.?? Tire King was known for being the areas first, of the automotive business, to provide a fresh and modern look aneexperience in tire and automotive stores. The tire business is one of a kind.?? The people you meet in this business are friends for life.?? Our dad had many friends.?? He was solely a business man who knew any aneeverything about tires.?? Due to declining health, he sold his business at the end of 2012. He worked hard at building his business for his family.?? His family was everything to him and we may neer know the sacrifices he made for us all. Jerry???s hobbies were collecting classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles.?? Many would attest to him being the most generous man they???ve ever known.?? He had maneemployees that were employed by him until their retirement.?? He helped many start a career in the tire business. Jerry will be missed by his many loyal and dedicated former employees, business associates, as well as close and personal friends. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jerry???s closest confidant and family friend, Dean Porterfield.?? For 30+ years Dean worked beside Jerry, growing the business and taking it to the next level.?? For his trustworthiness and constant dedication to Tire King, our dad was able to focus on commercial real estate and his family.?? There are too many others to nee but we???re confidant you know who you are because he surely knew you.?? Your dedication to Jerry and Tire King will neer be forgotten nor will your compassion for his children throughout the past five years. Surviving are his three children, Tim Horne, Chris Horne Roberts, and husband Wayne, Cameron Horne Richards, and husband David; grandchildren, Seth Turner, and his wife Sarah, Madison Horne, MacKenee Richards, Dallas Horne, Rhys Richards, and Griffin Roberts; two great granddaughters, Kyleigh and Aliza Turner. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded ineeath by his wife, Teresa Catherine Keyser Horne, and his Goldeneetriever, Remi. Funeral services will be held oneednesday, April 26, 2017 at 12:00pm in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, officiating will be Rev. Mark Francis. Interment will be private in the Horne Family Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
