Jo Alice Richards

Jo Alice Wilson Richards passed away at home with family. She was born on August 5, 1938, in Yancey County, North Carolina, and passed away on June 15, 2023, at the age of 84. Jo was the daughter of Earl Clayton Wilson and Helen Piercey Wilson.

Jo had a fulfilling career as a dedicated nurse. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nova University and trained as a Registered Nurse at NC Baptist Hospital and worked a faithful career for a total of 40 years, including Granville Medical Hospital (13 years). In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jo was known for being a loving mother, wife, and grandmother.

Jo is survived by her children, Melody A. Poli and Michael C. Richards, as well as her grandchildren: Charlie Poli (Emily), Jon Paul Poli, Sarah Jo Poli, Joseph Poli, Sparrow Richards, and Noel Richards. She will be deeply missed by her family, including her fur babies, as well as numerous friends and loved ones.

Jo was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Richards, her daughter, Sabrina Richards, and her parents, Earl Clayton Wilson and Helen Piercey Wilson.

A memorial service to honor Jo's life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford, North Carolina (address: 503 College St, Oxford, NC, 27565). The service will be officiated by Rev. Jonathan Minter.
