Joan Marie Stets was born in Fort Knox, KY on August 3, 1952. She was the eldest daughter of John F. Stets deceased and Josephine S. Stets. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, OH, Ohio State Uneersity and Ohio State Uneersity Medical School in Columbus. Joan completed her residency at Ohio State Uneersity and Moneeal General Hospital in Quebec. She received her Masters Degree in Surgery from McGill Uneersity in Moneeal and completed her training in plastic surgery from the Uneersity of North Carolina. In 1987, she opened an office in Durham, and in 1992, she opened an office in Raleigh. Joan was board certified in both plastic and general surgery, as well as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She was on the staff of many different hospitals in the Raleigh/Durham area.
Joan was involved in the theatre community and directed in, acted in, and worked on costumes for many productions. She was a ballroom dancer, singer, a doll collector, an avid reader, decorator, cat-lover, traveler, lover of flowers, and was involved in sports including archery and martial arts. Her grace, courage, compassion, and generosity touched the lives of many family, friends, patients, and community members to whom she showed unconditional love and support.
She is survived by her mother, Josephine S. Stets of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and nee siblings: John F. Stets of Athens, OH; Jenny A. Stets of Orange, CA; Judy C. Daly of Lynnwood, WA; Julie P. Stets of Sudbury, MA; Jeffrey P. Stets of Westerville, OH; Jerry A. Stets of Trabuco Canyon, CA; Jan E. Stets of Riverside, CA; Jane C. Milton of Hillsboro, OR; and Justin D. Stets of Northfield, MN. She is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews, and her family of friends. Joan
