Joanne Lysbeth Coyle, 83, died oneednesday, January 31, 2018, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington. She was born May 1, 1934 in Orange, NJ to Marcella Jean Daly Ward and Joseph Thomas Ward. She grew up ineew Jersey and was a graduate of Saint Vincent Academy and of St. Michael???s School of Nursing, both ineewark, NJ. Joanne worked as a geriatric nurse for 37 years, first at East Orange Nursing Home ineew Jersey and later at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC. She lived many years with her family ineest Caldwell, NJ, where she raised six children and attended Saint Aloysius Catholic Church. In 1990 she moved to Greensboro, NC, where she attended St. Pius X Catholic Church in Greensboro and Christ the King Catholic Church in High Point. In 2004 Joanne fulfilled her dream of moving to the beach when she built her house on Oak Island, where she lived for 13 years. While on Oak Island she attended St Brendan's Catholic Church in Shallotte and later Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport. Recently Joanne had moved to Burlington to be close to family. As a nurse, Joanne will be remembered for her kineess and compassion, as well as her humor and her patience. Friends and family will remember her sense of humor, the mischievous twinee ineer eye, and her generosity of spirit. While living in Greensboro, Joanne voluneered as a peer counselor at the Women???s Resource Center, where she took pride ineelping other women find resources to cope with challenging situations. She also voluneered with Habitat for Humanity and with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Joanne loved travel and adventure, and she was always up for a laugh. Her openness to new things and ideas was inspiring to those around her. She loved eating good food, drinking a good cup of tea, and watching the movie ???Elf??? at Christmastime with her family. Joanne was predeceased by her former husband, John Coyle and her sister, Marcia Morris. She is survived by her six children, Kathleen Coyle Graves (LeAnna Graves), Virginia Coyle, James Coyle (Donna Coyle), Michael Coyle, Timothy Coyle, Erin Coyle (Grace Camblos); her grandchildren, Ryan Coyle and Megan Coyle (Chris Montaigne); and her great-grandson, Mason Montaigne. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 1:30 PM Friday from Immaculate Conception Church, Durham. Friends may visit in church one hour prior. Private cremation will follow the funeral. The family requests donations to one of Joanne???s favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Catholic Relief Services (crs.org).
