John S. Workman

John Sherwood Workman, age 78, died unexpectedly Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Duke Uneersity Medical Pavilion following surgery for a brief illness. A Durham native, he was born to the late John Sherwood Workman, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Workman. John graduated from Durham High School and later served in the National Guard Reserves. He worked at Liggett and Myers Research Labs several years before opening Shrimp Boats Restaurant which he operated for the better part of 28 years. For the past 20 years he had beeneelf employed as a medical courier where he developed many meaningful friendships. John was a member of New Hope Church where he and Faye worshiped and served faithfully at the Hillsborough campus. Mr. Workman is survived by his wife Faye King Workman of 47 years, his two children, Stephanie Workman Broer and husbaneeric of Raleigh, NC; Lori Kane and husband John of Durham, NC; five grandchildren , Johneeece Broer, Cameroneenee Broer, Devon Couch, Derek Tarrant and Christopher Tarrant and nee great- grandchildren, one sister, Jean Connor Ferguson. He was preceded ineeath by two brothers, William and Robert Matthews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Monday, January 15, 2018, at New Hope Church Central Campus, 7619 Fayetteville Road, Durham, NC 27713 with Pastor Chris Peltz officiating. A private burial will follow. Friends may visit with the family from 2-5 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham.
