John Sanford Stover

John Sanford Stover, 74, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Oxford, North Carolina. He was born on October 20, 1949, in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Ira Filmore Stover, Sr. and Frances Naomi Newberry.

John married his wife, Beth Kilmon, on April 12, 1969, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church in Virginia. He worked as a construction worker and truck driver, enjoying a life filled with fishing, hunting, and working on cars. John was known for his resourcefulness and love of building things.

In remembrance, John joins his family members that preceded his death, brother (Ernest Franklin Stover), mother, father, sister (Linda Naomi Stover), brother (Ira Filmore Stover, Jr.) and sister (Bertha Ann Stover).

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Stover of Oxford, NC; his children, Ira John Stover (Valerie) of Raleigh, NC, Joe Sanford Stover of Manitowoc, WI, and Frances Naomi Heflin (Mike) of Locust Grove, VA. He also leaves behind his sisters, Mary Frances Fitzgerald (Sailor) of White Oak, VA, and Sue Christine Cruey (Larry) of Richlands, VA.

John was a loving grandfather to Cheyenne Marie Heflin, Dolly Nicole Stone, Daisy Mae Stone, Kayleigh Ann Stover, Aaron Michael Heflin, Joseph Tyler Stover, Riley Allen Stover, and Jonathan Earl Ennis. He also cherished his great-grandchildren, Bryleigh Rae Bowers and Bristol Lyn Bowers.

John attended Corinth Baptist Church and will be remembered for his kind heart and love of children.

The Stover family is under the care of Gentry-Newell & Vaughan of 503 College Street, Oxford, NC, 27565.
