Joseph Walker Garrard II, 97, died at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at his home. Mr. Garrard was born in Durham County oneebruary 11, 1916, a son of Isaac Marion Garrard and Lonie Grey Sanford. He was preceded ineeath by his wife, Minee Boddie Green, his son, Isaac Marion Garrard, II, his sister, Lucille G. Dunnagan, his two brothers, John T. Garrard and Robert S. Garrard. He founded Garrard Sausage Company and with the assistance of his son, accomplished widespread distribution of its products. He retired at the age of 70 and began to enjoy leisure time on the golf courses of The Villages, Florida and in and around Durham. He developed many friendships during his long and full life and treasured all of them. He delighted ineelling stories and was a master at wit and communication. He was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Marie G. Kolodij and her husband, Roman; Luanne G. Holland and her husband, Jimmy, three granddaughters, Lauren Jones, Jenneer Hall and Rachel Holland, two grandsons, Joseph Garrard III, and Dillon Holland, five great grandchildren, Neah and Cailyn Garrard, Carson aneemory Jones, and Luke Hall. He is also survived by Salle Elizabeth Bell who shared his professional work and was a personal family friend for over 50 years. Friends may visit from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday evening at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm Sunday in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with the Rev. Dr. Clay Waters and Rev. Malbert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
