Josephineerwin Shaw

Josephineerwin Russell Shaw, 88, passed away peacefully at Carillion Assisted Living of Hillsborough at 7:00 AM oneecember 16, 2010. Josephine was born in High Point, NC on October 25, 1922 to Elijah Austin Russell aneella Erwin Russell. Josephine went to school in Hamlet, NC and after graduation worked for the US Army where she met and married her husband. Following the war, she worked along side her husband as they built a business and provided for their two sons. Both of her sons graduated from college and that was probably one of her most proud moments. In addition, she was always available to take her sons to their baseball games and watch as a proud parent. Josephine was involved with several social groups aneenjoyed the company and fellowship those friends. She was a long time Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Durham and was rewarded with the affections of many children she took charge of. She was a devoted wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She will be remembered with great love and kind thoughts. Those who knew her will have many fond memories of her life and contributions. Josephine was preceded ineeath by her husband, Calvin H. Shaw, Sr. and a son, Kenneth Ware Shaw. She is survived by her son, Calvin H. Shaw, Jr. of Largo, FL; grandson, Kenneth C. Shaw and wife, Martha of Hampstead, NC; granddaughter, Courtney S. McDaniel and husband, Chris, of Concord, NC. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Maplewood City Cemetery, 1621 Duke Uneersity Rd., Durham, NC 27701. The Rev. Forest Gale will officiate. Josephine's family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice in Durham and the staff of Homewatch Caregivers of Chapel Hill for the care, love and respect that they showered on Josie.
