Joyce Ann Smith Garrett

Durham ??? Mrs. Joyce Ann Smith Garrett, died at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Mrs. Garrett was born in Durham to the late Louvenia Bass and Lewis B. Smith.?? She was educated in the Durham public schools.?? Mrs. Garrett was employed with Duke Radiology for several years.?? She was a longtime member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where in the past, she sang in the choir.?? She loved classic country/bluegrass music aneenjoying sewing, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. Joyce is survived by her husband of 61 years, Darrell W. Garrett of the home; sons, Delbert W. Garrett, and his wife, Rebecca, Harlan Mangum, and his wife, Linda; daughter, Deena Garrett Horn, and her husband, Gary, all of Durham; grandchildren, Lisa Garrett, Kaira Horn, Brandon Garrett Horn; brother, Wayne Smith of Durham; sisters, June Hogan of Hillsborough, Sandra Costin of Burgaw, NC. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded ineeath by a sister, Euna Mae Love. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 12:30pm in Maplewood Cemetery.?? The family will receive visitors prior to the service, from 11:00 ??? 12:15pm in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service and at other times at the home of Harlan and Linda Mangum.
