Joyce Sneeden Hopkins

Jesus took the hand of 100-year-old Joyce Sneeden Hopkins oneew Year???s Day to lead her to a joyful birthday celebration in Eternity.?? Her greatest legacy is that she completed her race of faith as God???s child and is presently resting in His Loving Arms. Joyce loved her family.?? She was born to Luther Palmer Sneeden and Martha May Southerland on May 25, 1918 in Norfolk, Virginia.?? As a young child she moved to North Carolina and spent the majority of her life in Durham. ??She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Mary Steele Horton (Wyche); and her husband, Gordon Carlyle Hopkins, Jr. of 53 years. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, G. C., on June 4, 1940.?? He served in WWII, second day D-Day, Normandy, France.?? It was important to Joyce for people to remember the sacrifices of all veterans for our freedoms. Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Joyce Jarmakani (Jay) of Lahaina, Hawaii and Martha Hopkins Server (Bill) of Black Mountain, North Carolina.?? In addition, she has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren along with two nieces and one nephew. We lovingly and gratefully acknowledge Joyce???s primary caregiver, Nellie Bullock, RN, who provided both physical care and spiritual encouragement.?? Her most recent caregivers include Agnes Anyango and Shetarra Burton.?? We also recognee Dave and Bonee Thommarson of Home Ineead and their main caregiver for Joyce, Ethel Breeze.?? We want to thank Duke Hospice for their loving services ineer final days. A memorial service for Joyce will be at Trinity Uneed Methodist Church in Durham on January 10, 2019, at 12 noon. The family invites everyone to a reception at the church following the service.
