J.S. Howard

Julius S. Howard "Papa J", 68, died on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Papa J. was born in Wake County, NC to the late Carl and Pauline Howard on October 14, 1941. Papa J. was a 1959 Graduate of Chapel Hill High School. He also worked with Trianee Ford Industrial Engines for 25 + years where he eventually retired as General Maneer. He served with the National Guard for 8 years. He was and did many things that he was greatly proud of, but his greatest pleasures came from the time and company that he spent with his family and close friends. Papa J. lived for his grandchildren and seemed to collect more than just his own everywhere that he went. He was a great man and will always be remembered with every sunset, trip to the lake and Duke victory. He was a Shriner and a Mason and until he was no longer able to, he greatly enjoyed donating his time to both organizations in their efforts to help children everywhere. Papa J. is survived by his wife Ann Howard of Palmer Springs, VA; son Steve Howard Laura Ann of Durham; daughter Kimberly Howard Naughton of Raleigh; grandchildren Zach McGhee, Taylor Naughton, Rachel Ann Howard, Emma Howard, and Jake Howard; brother Eddie Howard of Durham and many good friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his faithful pet companion of many years C.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in J.S.'s nee may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605. Please include "Julius S. Howard Memorial" on the memo line of your check. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from the Chapel at Hall-Wynne, 1113 West Main St., Durham. The Rev. Mark D. Stephens, Pastor will preside. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. A private cremationeervice will be held at a later time from the Hall-Wynne Crematory.
