Katherine Carr

DURHAM-Katherine Louisa Legg Carr,Mrs. Albert Gallatin Carr was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 to Maria and Milton Franklineegg ineenderson, North Carolina. She lived a long, happy life and passed away peacefully at home on Friday evening with her family by her side. Katherine was full of spirit with a loving and kind presence. She was a devoted wife, mother, and loyal friend to many. She had a great appreciation for the arts, good books, delicious food and joyful music and loved playing bridge. She was an accomplished portrait artist and could spot a four-leaf clover in a patch of thousands. She loved God and family and held a deep faith throughout her life time. Katherine grew up ineenderson, NC with her twin sister, Maria Legg Wortham and her brother Milton Franklineegg. In high school she was a member of the girls basketball team and gained the superlative "best all round girl". Katherine attended St. Mary's junior college in Raleigh, where she was a Marshall and a member of the honorary society, "The Circle". She then attended Hollins College in Roanee Virginia. Katherine married the love of her life, Albert Gallatin Carr of Durham on June 29th, 1946. For the rest of her life, Katherine immersed herself in the Durham community. She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Circle Chairman, President of the Women of the Church, deacon aneelder. Katherine served as the co-chairman of the state committee to raise funds for building the NC Museum of Art for two years. She was a founding member of The Better Health Foundation of Durham, the Durham Museum of History, the Stagville Historic Site, and the Durham Historical Society. She was a member of the NC Museum of History and the NC Historical Society. Katherine also voluneered for "Meals on Wheels" and for over 25 years she served on the Duke Hospital Auxillary . She was Co-Chairman of the first Duke-Carolina Freshman Football Classic to benefit the Cerebral Palsy Fund. She was a member and past chairman of the NC society for the Colonial Dames of America as well as the Durham Debutante Ball society. Katherine was a member and past president of the Up to Date Book Club and a member of the Forest Hills Garden Club. Katherine is survived by her three daughters, Maria Carr Harrell, Louise Carr Faurot and Kappy Carr Black, her three granddaughters Katherineeure Black, Maria Hollingshead Faurot and Anna Carr Faurot, two son in laws, Robert Perry Black and Bruce Hollingshead Faurot, her twin sister, Maria Legg Wortham, many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, she was grateful for her devoted caregivers Mia Alston and Robin Smalls. A service of witness to the Resurrection will be 2:00pm Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Durham. Private burial will be in Old Maplewood Cemetery.
