Katherine Huffman Ripley

Katherine Huffman Ripley, 93, died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Croasdaile Village. Born in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Ara and Sarah Payne Huffman. In 1934, after graduating from UNC Greensboro, Mrs. Ripley moved to Durham. She worked at the Duke Uneersity Library for 23 years until her retirement in 1980. Mrs. Ripley was a member of Lakewood Uneed Methodist Church and the Womens Society of Christianeervice. Mrs. Ripley was also active as a voluneer at Durham General Hospital and the Durham County Auxiliary. Surviving are her son, Allen Ara Ripley of Swansboro, NC; her daughter, Barbara R. King of Conway, NH; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Allen Elliott Ripley. Graveside Services will be held 2 PM Saturday from Maplewood Cemetery with the Rev. Milton Hadley and Rev. Denee Waters officiating. The family will received friends from 7-8:30 PM Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UMRH-Few Chapel, 2600 Croasdaile Farm Pkwy, Durham, NC 27705.
