Kathleen ???Kass??? O???Donnell Shulby Kathleen ???Kass??? Elizabeth O???Donnell Shulby, age 90, passed away Wednesday, April 3rd at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC. Her passing follows that of her beloved husband of 66 years, Edgar Truman ???Bill??? Shulby, by two years. Kass was born in Pittsburgh and raised ineeadon, PA. She graduated from Yeadon High School with a group of friends that remained close throughout her life. She went to work at American Viscose and it was during this time that she met the love of her life. Kass and Bill were married ineeadon and lived in Collingdale, PA and Lutherville, MD before settling to raise their two children ineewtown Square, PA. Kass focused on raising the children but also worked part time and was active in community affairs. These activities led her to become elected as the first female district representative to the Newtown Square Board of Supervisors. After completing her term and as her children grew, Kass accepted a position as an administrator at a senior healthcare facility where she worked until the family moved to Baton Rouge, LA. An opportunity at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company led Kass and Bill to live in Anchorage, AK. During their time in Anchorage, Kass accepted a positioneeading an administrative group at the Alaska Energy Authority (AEA). Kass was among the first at AEA to be trained on the Wang word processing system.?? Subsequently she trained and supervised the administrative group that initiated the process of digitizing the paper-based systems at AEA. Kass and Bill moved to warmer climates uponeetirement including Daphne, AL, Pinehurst, NC and finally Durham, NC. Kass??? greatest joys included raising her children, times with extended family especially her sister, Jeanne, maintaining the many friendships she built over the years, playing bridge, the companionship of their dogs, Heidi, Kristi, Rusty and Dodie and?? Sunday drives in the country after Mass. Kass??? love and dedication to her family were unsurpassed. She shuttled children to and from before and after school events while balancing her commitments to community and work. She was the family Chief Financial Officer and chef; her specialty was the Amish delicacy, dry-bottom shoo-fly pie. She will be deeply missed. Kass is survived by her two children, Gail and Bill and his wife Nancy, and four beautiful grandchildren; Megan (31), Kari (29), Michael (24) and Valerie (22). The family would?? like to extend its gratitude and affection to her dedicated caregiver, Mo Lee, and her other care providers including those at ??Atria Southpoint Walk and Hock Family Pavilion, both in Durham, NC. They were truly a blessing. The funeral Mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, NC at 10:00 AM oneednesday, April 10. Inurnment will take place at Saint Thomas Moore following Mass.?? In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Duke Hospice Inpatient Facility
