Kenneth D. "Kimbo" Peterson, 84, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Franklineegional Medical Center. A Franklinton native, he was born to the late Leon and Iris Kearney Peterson oneecember 4, 1926. Kimbo was very generous with his time by helping those ineeed and by getting involved with the local community. He was proud to serve the Lord. Before working for the NC Dept. of Corrections where he retired in 1989, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Kimbo was a charter member of the Franklintoneescue Squad; an active member of Americaneegion Post 52; 40 & 8 Voiture 1174; and former employee of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel. Before joining Oak Level Christian Church where he served as an usher, Kimbo worshipped at Union View Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school class, served as Deacon and was Chairman of the Deacon Board. Kimbo is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Eunee Peterson and his daughter, Robineeterson, both of Franklinton; two half-brothers, Curtis Perry and wife, Anee Mae, of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Rodney Perry of Georgia; and a half-sister, Patricia Bailey of Aneer, NC; and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel with Pastor Gary Williams presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM in the funeral home.
