Linda Diane Wilkins

Durham, NC – Linda Spoon Wilkins, age 74, passed away peacefully on

September 27, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on January 22,

1948, to the late Ernest Spoon and Sarah Johnson Spoon Briggs and Stepfather Joseph Briggs.

She was born in Greensboro, NC moving shortly after to Hillsborough, NC. Linda was a graduate of Orange High School, class of 1966. She began her career at the age of 18 at Duke University Medical Center. She continued her career there for 56 years until retiring on August 31, 2022. While working, she continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration as well as her Real Estate and Appraisal License.

Linda is survived by her husband, John Wilkins of 52 years, her son, Scott Wilkins, and wife Meredith; her grandchildren, Mason and Hudson Wilkins, her brother, Mike Spoon, and wife Elizabeth; niece and nephew, Taylor, and Nicholas Spoon, all of Durham. She is also survived by other brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, cousins, and many friends that she greatly cherished.

She loved playing golf, especially at Umstead Pines, where she was a longtime member. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, and watching her grandsons play sports. She was an avid Duke fan, and what she loved most was being a part of the Cameron Crazies and cheering on the Blue Devils in all sports.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, with Rev. Jimmy Bland officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday,

October 3, 2022. Ronnie Wilkins, Cliff Carroll, Mark Waller, and HC McDade will serve as active pallbearers.

Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the Duke Doctors, Nurses, and Duke Hospice for their care.
