Mrs. Lois May Wilkie Thompson, 93, of Pittsboro, NC, died March 22, 2009, at the Laurels of Chatham. Mrs. Thompson was born May 8, 1915 in Moncure, NC, the daughter of Mont Thomas Wilkie and Florence Helen Poe. While attending Radford Uneersity, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and graduated in 1934 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Lois taught in Cumberland County for 6 years, followed by 32 years in the Chatham County School System as a 2nd grade teacher at Moncure and Pittsboro Elementary. She was a member of Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Thompsoneemained an active participant in many functions of the church throughout her life. After her retirement from teaching, Lois was involved with the Retired Teachers Association of Chatham County for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Helen T. Sorrell and husband W.T. of Valdese, NC; two sons and dauthers-in-law, Bill and Cathy Thompson of Pittsboro, and Jim and Laura Thompson of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren; and four great gandchildren. Mrs. Thompson was preceded ineeath by her husband, Tom Thompson, a son, Tommy Thompson, four brothers, three sisters, two grandsons, and one great grandchild. The service to celebrate Mrs. Thompson's life will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church, conducted by Dr. Jan Nicholson-Hill. Interment will follow at the Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery in Moncure, NC. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the funeral home.
