Mabel Clair Woodlief Cash, 91, of Asheville, passed away on January 3, 2016. A native of Franklin County, NC, she moved to Oxford, NC as a young child, and lived there until relocating to Asheville in 2001. She was the daughter of the late Roy Harris and Lillie Belle Wrenn Woodlief, and was preceded ineeath by her husband of 50 years, Fred Watkins Cash, by her sisters Beulah Blackley, Ruby Wilson and Pauline Dixon, and by her brothers Fred, Carl, Dallas, J.D., Bruce and Gene Woodlief. Mrs. Cash was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church and a graduate of Oxford High School. She ran a successful children???s clothing shop in Oxford for many years, and thereafter worked for many more years as an assistant to Oxford optometrist Dr. Harry Reinitz. She loved reading, sewing, and making crafts. She made holidays special times with her creative wreaths and her flair for decorating. Mrs. Cash is survived by her son Gary Cash and his wife Leita of Asheville, grandson Joshua Cash of San Francisco, CA, grandson Stephen Cash, his wife Pia, and great granddaughters Wren and June Cash of Marshall, NC, and brother Watson Woodlief of Jacksonville, FL. A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Christopher Aho is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the chapel of Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Mrs. Cash???s memory to Meals on Wheels of Asheville and Buncombe County, 146 Victoria Rd., Asheville, NC 28801, or to the Council on Aging, 46 Sheffield Cir., Asheville, NC 28803..
