Margaret Fuquay Munford was born in Durham, NC on July 24, 1920 and went to be with Jesus on Friday, February 29, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Felix Reid and Bessie Woody Fuquay. Margaret is survived by two children: Dheadra M. Cozart and husband, Bill, of Creedmoor, NC; and Reid Munford of Durham, NC; three grandchildren: Wiley Cozart and wife, Heidi, of Mebane, NC; Chris Cozart and wife, Robin, of Creedmoor, NC; Cristen Munford of Garner, NC; and four great grandchildren: Caleb, Stephanie Summer and Lexi. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Liddell Munford, who died in 1979. Margaret received her B.A. from Meredith College and her Masters of Education from Duke Uneersity. Margaret was employed by Durham City Schools for 32 years. For sixteeneears she taught at Holloway Street and Club Boulevard Elementary Schools; she served seveneears as supervisor of reading and nee years as principal of George Watts Elementary School. Margaret served as the president of Durham City Classroom Teachers Association for two years and in 1970 she became the first president of Durham City Association of Educators. Margaret was also successful in promoting the "Success ineeading and Writing Program", which spread from the Durham City Schools to various parts of the U.S., including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. It was featured in Time Magazine in the fall of 1979. Margaret also served on two committees for the State of N.C. for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Over the years she attended Temple Baptist, Calvary Uneed Methodist, Parkview Baptist and Westwood Baptist churches in Durham. Living ineer cottage at Carolina Beach and reading were her favorite hobbies. She loved children and they loved her. During her early retirement years Margaret helped her daughter, Dheadra, establish the Breadbasket Ministry. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2008, from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service with the Rev. Mac Bare officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:45 P.M. in the funeral home.
