Margaret Burns Mathews, 76, of Pittsboro, died neember 1, 2011. Borneebruary 22, 1935 in Orangeburg, SC, Margaret moved to Pittsboro in 1938 with her parents, Lacy Royal and Wilhelmena Pooser Burns. She attended elementary and high school in Pittsboro, serving as secretary and historian of the Beta Club. Margaret graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1953. She also worked for her father at Pittsboro Dry Cleaners before attending UNC-G for one year. Margaret began a career with NCNB in Chapel Hill, retiring as the Supervisor of Customer Service after 34 years of service. Following her retirement Margaret was active with the PHS Alumni Association; and also the Pittsboro Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer of the Bazaar Committee and was a former choir member. Surviving are three children, Charlene M. Hinshaw and husband David, of Poquoson, VA; George Mathews and wife Amy of Midlothian, VA, and Charles Mathews and wife Teri, of Rice, MN.; 6 grandchildren; her sister, Ann Knoch and husband David, and their sons, of Corolla; and first cousineean Bryan of Pittsboro. The funeral service for Margaret Mathews will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church, with Rev. Ben Alexander and Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Entombment will follow in the church columbarium. Friends may visit with the family from 7 9 pm Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
