Margaret Hannah Tilley

Margaret Hannah Tilley, a beloved mother and member of her community, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Oxford, NC. Born on March 30, 1936, in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Jerry M. and Lilla Mae Tidwell Hannah, Margaret touched the lives of many with her loving nature, kindness, and generosity.

Margaret dedicated her career to serving others as a Medical Secretary at John Umstead Hospital, a role that reflected her caring personality and commitment to helping those in need. She was educated in Durham City Schools and graduated from Durham High School, which laid the foundation for her professional journey. Throughout her life, she exemplified simplicity and minimalism, embracing straightforward joys and fostering deep connections with those around her.  Margaret loved to take time and wander through her flower garden or spend time in the swing sharing conversation with others.

She is survived by her loving sons, Michael Cowart and Donald "Donnie" Cowart, and Donnie's wife, Sheila Cowart. Margaret was adored by her grandsons, Matthew and Daniel Cowart, who filled her life with laughter and love. She is also remembered by her sister-in-law, Norma Jean Hannah, and her special friend's, Faye Little, Faye Ayscue and the late Pat Satterwhite. In addition, Margaret leaves behind her nieces, Diane Fish (Michael) and Carla Hancock, her great-nieces and great nephew, and friends too numerous to name, each cherishing the unique bond they shared with her.

Margaret is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Cowart, and her subsequent spouses, Fred Daniel and Billy Tilley. She also mourns the loss of her brother, Jimmy Hannah, her sister, Geraldine Hudson and her niece, Martha Brockwell.

Her legacy of love, care, and kindness will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on January 2, 2025, at Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford, NC, commencing at 11:00 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Margaret Hannah Tilley, whose spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our lives.

Flowers are welcomed or one may make a memorial contribution to a charity of choice in Margaret's memory.
