Mrs. Marie Thrift Mitchell, 81, of Lineey St., Pittsboro, died February 6, 2012 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford following a sudden illness. Mrs. Mitchell was borneebruary 18, 1930 in Chatham County, a daughter of William McKinley Thrift aneevie Creed Thrift. Mrs. Mitchell graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1948 and married her husband Bob Ray Mitchell in 1951. An active homemaker, she enjoyed reading especially cookbooks, yard work, cooking, and canning and freezing produce from her husband Bob's garden. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church where she was involved in neerous activities: the Hospitality committee, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, co-chair of the Prime Timer's Senior Adults, the Women's Missionary Union program chair, and a former teacher of children's Sunday School classes. Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Brown, and Sharon Thomas and her husband Rusty, all of Pittsboro; sister, Maxine Bristol and her husband Jack; brother, Curtis Thrift and his wife Joyce, all of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Aimee Allred aneemily Judge; great-grandchildren, Lineey Wheeler, Thomas Wheeler, Jake Allred, Emma Allred aneella Grace Judge. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded ineeath by her parents; her husband; a great-granddaughter, Evie Judge; and a sister, Ola Mae McInnis. The funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Mitchell's life will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, February 9, 2012 at Emmaus Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Moore presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall following the service.
