Marjorie McNay Jones, 88, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 26, 2009 after a brief illness at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Marjorie, the eldest daughter of Charles McNay and Catherine Hill McNay was born on June 20, 1920 in Midway, KY and moved to Durham as a child. She graduated in 1941 from Durham High School. Upon completion of her formal training, Marjorie was employed as a dental assistant for over 40 years. On neember 22, 1941 Marjorie married the love of her life, W. Vernon Jones, and devoted herself to their marriage for over 55 years until his death in July 1996. Vernon worked in the Advertising Department of the Durham Herald Suneewspaper for over 40 years. Marjorie is survived by her son, Bill Jones and his wife Paula of Sunset Beach; her daughter, Kathie Henry and her husband David of Raleigh. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Jones and his wife Alyson, Adam Jones and his wife Kate, Emily Jones, Joel Henry and Carsoneenry. After celebrating her marriage to Vernon in the First Baptist Church of Durham, Marjorie remained a devoted member of the Church for over 60 years and was an active participant of the Loyalty Sunday School Class until her passing. As members of the Durham Elks Club for over 30 years, Marjorie and Vernon especially enjoyed participating in many social activities and the development of many long-time special friendships arising out of mutual interests in ballroom dancing. During her lifetime, Marjorie dedicated most of her time aneenergy to her family, church and community. She had a deep and abiding faith ineer Lord. Marjorie derived great joy in quietly going about performing couneess acts of kineess for others. Marjorie also found pleasure ineending her glorious rose gardens. Visiting for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 West Main St., Durham with a Memorial Service to follow in the Hall-Wynne Chapel beginning at 12:00 pm.
