OXFORD: Martha Crowell Hight passed surrounded by her loving family on the 15th of March, 2010. Mrs. Hight was the daughter of the late William Watson Crowell and the late Lillian Spencer Crowell. She was born in Statesville, NC on the 25th of July 1926, but moved at a very young age to Oxford, NC, which was ineer words "Next to Heaven." There she lived with her two brothers, the late William W. "Bill" Crowell and Russell C. "Russ" Crowell. Mrs. Hight was part of the graduating class of 1943 Oxford High School then worked for 11 years at the Granville County Agricultural Extension office. Mrs. Hight married Dennis T. Hight, Sr. formally of Lynchburg, VA on the 21 of May 1955. During Mr. Hight's career with Western Union, the family moved several times but finally settled in Greensboro in 1970. Mrs. Hight beganeer career with the then NCNB, later need Nations Bank, which has evolved into Bank of America. Mrs. Hight was the loving mother of two children: Dennis T. Hight, Jr. Susan and Catherine Hight Gaither Henry. In addition, she was "Mamma" or "Mema" to five grandchildren, Spencer, Scott and Caroline Gaither aneerin and John Hight. She was also great-grandmother to Oliver Gaither. Mrs. Hight was known for her kind heart and cheerful personalityshe neer met a stranger. She also traveled throughout the world visiting friends and family in Europe, Okinawa, Japan, and Keflavik Iceland, leaving a little bit of her southern charm everywhere she went with everyone she touched. Internment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford oneednesday, March 17, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.
