Martha Jean Shepherd Holmes

Martha Jean Shepherd Holmes, 69, died Tuesday, July 19 at her home. Born in Durham, she was the daughter of the late Claiborne Morland and Dovie Pauline Marks Shepherd. She worked at Burlington Industries until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Holmes was Baptist. She loved flowers and gardening and was a very compassionee and giving woman. Mrs. Holmes loved to help other people. She saw the needs of others and tried to help in any way she could. Surviving are one son, Tony Lee Hayes and wife Kimberleigh of Pasadena, MD; two daughters, Cynthia Maria Holmes and Lisa Sibley and husband Douglas, both of Hillsborough; eight sisters, Mickie Hill of Maryland, Joan Abercrombie Mrs. Holmes twin sister of Chapel Hill, Elaine Durham, Rachel Clements, Billie Horne, Shirley Hodges, Louise Griffin, and Sue Edwards, all of Durham; nee grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Floyd D. Holmes and three brothers, Robert Evens, Edward Evans and Johnneevans. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home and other times at 1818 Adams Place in Hillsborough. Flowers are acceptable.
