Mary Alice Cozart Black, age 97, died on December 15, 2020. She was born to the late James Thurston Cozart, Jr. and Sallie Dean Cozart on March 24, 1923 in Oxford, North Carolina.
Mary Alice was a longtime resident of Wake County. She attended East Carolina Teacher’s College and earned a 4-year degree in Home Economics and Dietary; which she embraced to teach at Franklinton High School, Ravenscroft and the School of the Blind as a Dietician and Home Ec.
Mary Alice is survived by her children, Ginny Brummitt (Cliff) of Oxford and Winston Black, Jr (Kim) of Wilmington. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bryan Turner (London), Caity Black and Haley Black; her great – grandchildren, Cael and Hollee. She will be missed by her special nieces and nephews, cousins and loving friends and family.
Mary Alice was predeceased by her parents, her brother, James Fielding and her granddaughter, Holly Turner.
Graveside memorial service to be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 1:30 pm at Elmwood Cemetery officiated by Rev. Wes McMurray.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made in her honor to Westover United Methodist Church, 300 Powell Drive, Raleigh, NC, 27606.
