Mary Ann Barnes

Ann Howard Barnes, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 29, 1934, in Granville County to the late Floyd Dudley Howard and Evelyn Hobgood Howard. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Waverly H. Barnes Sr.

Ann was an avid homemaker with a servant’s heart. Her greatest love was her family as she raised her three children and her grandchildren to live a life of integrity. She was a member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church where she served many years working with the children. She loved attending baseball and softball games, Girl Scout activities, and any activity in which her children and grandchildren participated. In her later years, she shared her love with many through her bbq sauce, pimento cheese and brownies.

Survived by her children, Waverly Hobgood Barnes, Jr (Rhoda); Dudley Barnes (Carol) and Cindy McKenzie (Will). She will also be missed by her beloved sister, Betty Friday; her amazing grandchildren, Chris Barnes (Holly); Will Barnes (Dionisia Montanez); Keri Rojas (Chris); David Barnes (Savannah); Jay McKenzie (Kaitlyn); Anna Kate McKenzie and Ellie McKenzie and her precious great grandchildren, Carter Rojas, Nash Barnes, and Jackson Barnes. She will be greatly missed by her extended family & friends that she loved so dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, Oxford, NC and officiated by Reverend Robbie Wood and Reverend Terry Howard. A visitation for family and friends will be from 1:00 – 2:00 pm in the fellowship hall. Family & friends are invited to show sympathy to the family at the home of Dudley and Carol Barnes.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, c/o Alice Overton, 6537 Harold O’Brien Rd., Oxford, NC 27565.
