Mary Frances Woods, age 93 of Durham, NC, passed away quietly in her sleep on September 4, 2021. She was born on November 18, 1927, to the late Claiborne Woods and Mary Thacker.
Mary Frances attended the Richmond Professional Institute where she excelled in fashion design. She was employed at Perkins Branch of the Duke University Library, assisting Dr. Howard Powell for 15 years. She then worked for Duke in the Geology department until her retirement.
Mary Frances did exemplary artwork and enjoyed needlework. She won the grand reserve champion two years in a row at the NC State Fair for needlework.
She was preceded in death by her brother Claiborne S. Woods, Jr., niece, Jacqueline Edith LaWall and great nephew, Claiborne S. Woods IV.
She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Woods, nieces, Sandra Elaine Jeffries, and Adrienne Gardner (Jimmy); nephews, Claiborne S Woods, III (Judi), Michael L. Woods and Clay Edison; great-nieces, Shannon Chestnut, Faith Gardner, Megan Jeffries, Amanda Jeffries and Casey Woods and great-nephews, Matt Woods (Lorraine) and Christopher LaWall and several great-great nieces and nephews.
