CHAPEL HILL: Mary Louise (Milam) Creed, 90, of Chapel Hill and Surry, ME died oneecember 25, 2015 beneath a brilliant, Christmas, full moon. Louise was born in the Philippines oneeptember 25, 1925 to Mary Louise (Wilson) Milam and Daniel Franklin Milam, M.D. Louise grew up traveling the world with her family until they settled in Chapel Hill in the1930???s. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Sociology. While living in Boston with her former husband she taught kindergarten ineewton, MA. Later she earned a Masters in Library Science from CW Post in NY. She worked as an art librarian at SUNY-Stony Brook and Western Carolina Uneersity. Louise spent most of her summers (from age 9 on) ineer beloved Surry, Maine with family and friends. Louise was a devoted mother and friend; she had many lifelong, close friendships. She loved art and was an accomplished painter (oils and watercolors). Louise also enjoyed music, particularly jazz and classical, and was a talented piano player and singer. Louise was an ardent photographer who documented the lives of her family and friends for over 70 years. In later years, she also loved photographing flowers and landscapes. Her love of travel continued throughout her life and she traveled extensively in Europe and Central America. She was also an avid reader and gardener. For many years, she was an active member of Shared Learning in Chapel Hill. She also voluneered at a local community kitchen for many years helping prepare meals for the hungry. She loved attending performances at the Playmakers theatre and was an active supporter of the UNC-CH women???s basketball team. Louise loved animals; neerous cats and dogs were her companions for most of her life. Louise was preceded ineeath by her parents; her brothers, Daniel F. Milam, Jr., M.D. of Seattle, WA and John H. Milam, M.D. of Wineester, VA and her former husband, Professor Robert P. Creed of Shutesbury, MA. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Creed and companion Karen Stark of Durham, NC; her son, Professor Robert P. Creed, Jr. and daughter-in-law Katie Greene of Todd, NC; her brother, Robert W. Milam, M.D. of San Antonio, TX; and neerous nieces and nephews around the world. A memorial reception will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 3-5 PM at Hall Wynne Service in Durham.
