Mary White Cheek, age 99, passed away peacefully oneecember 2, 2015 at Croasdaile Retirement Community. She was born in Chatham County to Lydia Tysor and Robert L. White neember 4, 1916. Mary moved to Chapel Hill with her mother at the age of 5 after the death of her father. She was educated in the Chapel Hill schools and attended Women???s College in Greensboro. She was married in 1942 to the late Kenneth R. Cheek. Mary was a resident of Chapel Hill until she moved to Croasdaile Retirement Community thirteeneears ago. An avid gardener and knitter, she was known for her roses and she continued to create beautiful afghans well into her neeties. Mary was predeceased by her husband Kenneth R. Cheek; sisters, Frances Crook and Anneelle Lewis; brother, Sheldon White and granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Freeman Arnaud. She is survived by daughter Lydia C. Freeman (Larry); sons, Kenneth R. Cheek, Jr. (Charlotte) and Joel M. Cheek (Kathy); grandchildren Kimberly C. Edmonds, Michelle F. Castro, Christopher M. Cheek, Amy C. Riley and Meredith C. Castevens and 15 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Few Chapel in Croasdaile Village with Rev. Denee Waters officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
