(Durham) – Maynard William McKay, age 84, died at SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health on Sunday, February 18th, 2024. Maynard was born on August 30th, 1939, to the late Lizzie Covington McKay and Lawrence Gregory McKay.
Maynard retired in 2001 from Sumitomo Corporation. He loved blue grass music, NASCAR racing, and his family. He was a devoted Christian and enjoyed playing music for the congregation. He attended Sorrell Grove Baptist Church. Maynard adored his grandchildren and enjoyed family gatherings for every holiday and birthday. He also loved his sweet pups Champ, Buddy and Sadie. Everyone who met him would agree that he was a kind and gentle soul.
Maynard is survived by two daughters Melissa Redd (Michael) and Bridgette Hayes (Bryan), son Kelly McKay, three sisters Patsy Hannah, Carolyn Gholston, Barbara Ann Sears, his five grandchildren, Brianna McKay, Sandra McKay, Michael Redd Jr., Chandler King, Mason Redd, one great grandchild, Nolan Shurgot, and his special friend, Irene Rudd.
Maynard was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Pendegraph McKay, and his siblings, Frances Bragg, Russell McKay, Fred McKay, Bettie Louise McKay, Lester McKay, Bud McKay, and Martha Helen McKay.
Services for Maynard will be held on Wednesday, February 21st 2024, with a 1:00pm public visitation, and a 2:00pm funeral service at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, with a graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park immediately following.
Serving as pallbearers will be Walter McKay, Fred McKay Jr., Michael Redd Jr., Mark King, Tim Porterfield, and Dylan Atkins.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health.
