Merritt Y. Wilson Jr. of Pittsboro, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on April 18, 2012. He was born August 17, 1922 in Orange County, NC to the late Merritt Y. Wilson Sr. and Macy Suggs Wilson. He was preceded ineeath by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Browning Wilson. He leaves behind a loving family. His three children are Johnny Wilson and wife, Brenda of Pittsboro, Maycie W. Lloyd and husband Lynn of Graham and Tonya W. Thompson and husband Lee of Pittsboro. He will be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren Tiffany W. Hancock and husband Bill, John L. Wilson and wife Heather, Wilson C. Lloyd and wife Adrienne of Phoenix, AZ, Clint Lloyd and his wife Lina of New York, NY, Justus Thompson and Joshua Thompson. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren Robert Wheeler, Aneew Wheeler, John L Wilson Jr., Kelly Wilsoneeve Lloyd and he anticipated the May arrivals of two new great-granddaughters Addison Lloyd and Lora Wilson. Merritt Wilson was a WWII veteran spending 5 years in the navy with the last 3 years in the Pacific arena. In the fall of 2011 he went on the 100th Flight of Honor for WWII vets to the WWII Memorial in Washington DC. He graduated from High Point College and then earned his Masters Degree in Education Administration from Peabody College Vanderbilt ineennessee. He later earned an Advanced Superintendent Degree from UNC at Chapel Hill. He worked in the following schools systems; Greensboro City, Burlington City, Greene County, Alamance County and Chatham County. He retired in 1983 from Chatham County Schools as an Associate Superintendent where he was in charge of personnel and vocational education. He was proud of his efforts to bring quality vocational programs to the Chatham county schools. His efforts helped Chatham Central HS become a leader in the country in horticulture education. Merritt was active in his church and community serving as a Sunday school teacher at Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church aneenjoyed his work with the Pittsboro Lions Club. He was a forty year member of the Masons. He was a member of the First Uneed Church of Graham from 1962-67. He was recently residing at Twin Rivers Independent Living Facility in Pittsboro. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Merritt Wilson will be held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon, April 23, 2012, at Pittsboro Uneed Methodist Church, with Pastor Ben Alexander presiding. Interment will follow at 6:30 pm at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in McLeansville. Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening, April 20, 2012 from 6 8 pm at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
