Mrs. Minee DiSclafani Sasso, 95, peacefully passed away ineer home, early Sunday morning, February 16, 2014. A native of Palermo, Sicily, Minee was born March 11, 1918, the third daughter to the late Antonio And Gemma Olori DiSclafani. At three years of age, her family made the pilgrimage to America. In fact, she spent her third birthday at Ellis Island, NY awaiting to be released from the small pox quarrentine that the ship she had traveled on had been placed under. As she got older, Minee took to dressmaking ineew York. She met, fell in love with, and married Vincent Fredrick Sasso, to whom she was faithfully with until his death in 1973. Although she and Vincent neer had children of their own, Minee was a "second" mother to many children throughout the years. She voluneered for many children and adult organizations, including the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill. Minee led an active life that included bowling until age 94. Mrs. Sasso is preceded ineeath by her husband of 30 years, Vincent, her parents, a brother, four sisters, and a nephew. Survivors include her sister, Sandra Perillo of Durham, NC; her nephews William R. Perillo and William Carrozza; her niece, Lorraine P. Werts; her nee-sake, Domenik Maxton Sucheki; and many other great nieces & great nephews. A Funeral Mass for Minee D. Sasso will be held 10:15AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
