Minee Green Garrard

Minee Green Garrard died Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009 at Duke Medical Center after several years of declining health. She was surrounded by her loving family and her long time friend and companion Sallie Elizabeth Bell. Born in Durham County on Nov. 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William J. Green and Minee Lee Green. Minee was the youngest of eight children. In addition to her parents she was preceded ineeath by her brothers, William Buck Green, Thomas Mack Green, and Jesse Green, sisters, Marjorie Hayes, Ruth Oakley, Bertha Cherry, and Rosa Mangum. Surviving are her husband of 69 years Joseph W. Garrard; son Isaac M. Garrard II; daughters, Luanne G. Holland and husband, Jimmy of Durham; Marie G. Kolodij and husband, Roman of Wilmington; grandchildren, Lauren E. Kolodij, Joseph W. Garrard, III, Jenneer E. Hall, Timothy D. Holland, Rachel C. Holland, great-grandchildren, Neah Garrard, Cailyn Garrard, Carson Jones, aneemory Jones. Minee was a very unique and loving person. As all of her friends knew, her big hobby was shopping for bargains. She also traveled extensively until the last few years. She enjoyed activities with her family, friends and the lucky little dog that she always had by her side. She was a member of Greystone Baptist Church aneespecially enjoyed her association with the Willing Workers class. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at Greystone Baptist Church with Dr. Clay Waters and Dr. Malbert Smith presiding. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6:00 8:00 PM Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, and other times at the home of Luanne and Jimmy Holland, 3307 Marywood Drive, Durham, NC 27712. Flowers are appreciated.
